North Salem High.
North Salem High School (NSHS) is a public school located in North Salem City, New York. It is located just behind the major residential middle-class neighborhood of Golden Meadows. NSHS is unique, being one of the few schools in the United State that openly and legally accepts mutants. Unfortunately, because of this, many of the local students of spiteful families have either moved or pulled their children out of the school and placed them in home school or private school.
Conversely, some accepting parents of mutants have moved to North Salem so that their children may attend and gain an education. In addition, some mutant-tolerant families have left their children to attend the school.
Each year, school starts in early September and ends in early May with a schoolwide prom. The school is separated by two separate semesters.
The Handbook
If you haven't yet begun to understand, North Salem High School is considered to be the most tolerant school in the U.S. for mutants right now. Regardless of their academic standing, students are placed in classes by their age as follows:
- Freshman: 14-15
- Sophomore: 15-16
- Junior: 16-17
- Senior: 17-18
Students who are ill-prepared for their coursework (often mutants who haven't been in school since the discovery of their powers), are required to participate in after school Study Hall from 3:00pm to 4:30pm in the library. In addition, any student whose grade falls below 2.5 is required to attend those same study sessions.
The school day itself begins at 8:00am with the first class. The day ends at 3:00pm. There are only two breaks in the day, one twenty minute break at 10:00am, and an hour lunch break at 12:30pm. Seniors are entrusted with the privilege to leave campus at lunch and to return on time for classes. First tardy offense is before-school detention for a week. The second offense is loss of off-campus privileges for a week. Third offense is permenent revocation of off-campus privileges.
The school grading system is a standerd 0-4 GPA system, where your GPA is the average of your individual scores. Grades have the following correlation:
- A - 4.0
- B - 3.0
- C - 2.0
- D - 1.0
- F - 0.0
