The impact of the assault on the United States Capitol in Washington has caused a boom in some social networks. Parler blocking _Withdrawal by Amazon from its hosting and by Google and Apple from their application stores , has caused far-right groups in the United States to look for new places to meet. As a consequence, the social network Gab , a space long used by right-wing extremists, has seen its demand catapulted, to the point of having gained more than 10,000 users every hour, according to the company . A quick look at Gab shows that its content is quite similar to that of Parler , full of anti-Semitic comments , misinformation about the US elections and conspiracy theories from groups like QAnon , a pro-Trump group known for its hoaxes during the pandemic . "The riots were planned in Obama's basement, carried out by Pelosi (Democratic congresswoman and speaker of the House of Representatives) and Schumer (Democratic senator from New York) which caused there to be little police," posted a user of this platform .
It wouldn't be strange to think that it was scripted, rehearsed and produced by news agencies that wanted to sell a story," adds another. Many Gab users deny that Parler was used to organize the riots, despite data showing otherwise . Gab, which bills itself as a free speech space, was launched in 2016 by Andrew Torba , the company's CEO, with the mission Europe Cell Phone Number List of creating a censorship-free platform. "Who has authorized the leftist social media monopoly to tell us what 'news' is, what 'trending' is, and define what 'harassment' is?" Torba told Buzzfeed in 2017 . This network works in a similar way to Twitter: users can upload 'gabs' (chats) of up to 300 characters. It quickly became a point of reference for figures of the American far-right, such as blogger Milo Yiannopoulos, former editor of Breitbart News , or radio host Alex Jones, known for his conspiracy theories .
It is also easy to find anti-Semitic content on Gab. In the comments section of founder Andrew Torba's recent posts, users refer to the riots in Washington as a Jewish coup" or lament that "Jews want communism." Torba actively participates on the platform, where he denies that the assault on the Capitol was premeditated or refers to journalists as "the devil." "We do not have any form of search that allows people to mass search the site. This is to protect our community from demonic journalists who want to ruin people's lives because of a politically incorrect post published five years ago," Torba posts. His followers support him in the comments. "They are not journalists. They are STASI (secret service of communist Germany) and Nazis," wrote one user. Gab claims it has been blocked by 25 service providers over the past few years .
